This year marks the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and GLDD celebrates its contributions by highlighting the PortMiami Deep Dredge Project. Completed in 2015, the project deepened the Miami harbor to -50 and -52 feet to accommodate post-Panamax vessels. GLDD deployed specialized dredging equipment to handle the hard limestone seabed while implementing environmental mitigation measures, including relocating over 1,000 corals, constructing artificial reefs, and creating a 17.1-acre seagrass habitat.
