The Port of Oakland and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ San Francisco District signed a design agreement August 27 aboard the USS Potomac, advancing a $642 million project to widen Oakland Harbor’s inner and outer turning basins. The inner basin will grow by 334 feet to 1,834 feet, and the outer basin by 315 feet to 1,965 feet, addressing tight clearances for larger vessels. The Corps is using a design-build strategy to accelerate contracting, targeting completion by 2030, with some dredged material reused for marsh creation.
