Maersk has confirmed orders for 26 large containerships of 18,600 TEU each, ending days of market speculation over a major fleet expansion program. All vessels will feature dual-fuel engines capable of running on LNG, with deliveries scheduled across 2029 and 2030. Maersk has not disclosed the shipyards or contract values. The order follows a similar eight-vessel deal in February and marks a renewed appetite for newbuildings after years of relatively restrained ordering compared to rivals MSC, CMA CGM, and COSCO. Alphaliner puts Maersk’s total orderbook at 1.21 million TEU.
