The Port of Los Angeles handled 1,042,652 TEUs in September 2026, its busiest month in 118 years and more than 20,000 TEUs above the previous monthly record set in July 2025. The July–September period also became the port’s busiest quarter on record at nearly 3 million TEUs.
Loaded imports climbed 19% year over year to 545,696 TEUs, while loaded exports rose 10% to 125,751 TEUs. Empty container moves hit a monthly record of about 371,206 TEUs. Through the first nine months of the year, the port has handled nearly 8.1 million TEUs, up more than 3% from 2025.
Executive Director Gene Seroka credited importers restocking as tariff uncertainty eased. The National Retail Federation expects imports to ease in October and November, and the port continues to navigate high fuel costs and global supply chain disruptions.
