Maritime Executive Article: Maersk and Seaspan Launch Vessel Upgrade Program to Improve Efficiency
Seaspan and Maersk have launched a vessel upgrade program, committing at least $75 million to overhaul 18 vessels on long-term charter to Maersk, with further initiatives still being planned. The centerpiece is a retrofit for four 13,000 TEU ships, adding a shaft generator, main engine optimization, a high-efficiency propeller, a pre-swirl device, and carbon capture readiness, alongside an elevated lashing bridge and increased deadweight. Combined, these measures are projected to cut slot costs by roughly 10–13 percent while boosting fuel efficiency and regulatory readiness
