The Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria added a new outdoor exhibit on July 14, as a 136-foot crane lifted the 122-ton retired fireboat David Campbell from a barge, over the Barbey Maritime Center, and into its display space. Built in 1927 for Portland Fire and Rescue and retired in 2021 after nearly a century of service, the vessel required custom slings and precise weight calculations for the move. It joins the pilot boat Peacock on display, with public access expected once the surrounding area reopens July 24.
