The Port of Vancouver USA is extending its public lecture series to screen Taming the Mouth, a new documentary on the history and influence of the Columbia River jetty system, at the Kiggins Theatre on Wednesday, September 23. Following the film, a panel featuring director Brett Eichenberger and on-screen participants, including Alex Strogen, the port’s Chief Commercial Officer, will answer questions from the audience.

The event runs from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main Street, Vancouver, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free, though space is limited and attendees must reserve a seat by RSVP’ing online. Pizza, popcorn and other concessions will be available for purchase, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Taming the Mouth traces the jetty system from its inception in 1880 through decades of construction, perilous maintenance and a legacy of nearly 2,000 shipwrecks, exploring how a narrow two-mile gateway became both a graveyard and a lifeline.
