The Port of Savannah handled a record 504,015 TEUs in September, up 3.7% from a year earlier, with loaded imports climbing 5.5%. Georgia Ports Authority credited steady consumer demand and an extended peak season, with typhoon delays at Asian ports pushing some cargo into September.

Fiscal first-quarter volume topped 1.5 million TEUs, up 2.7%, the second-strongest fiscal Q1 in GPA history. The $1.6 billion Ocean Terminal redevelopment is more than 60% complete and will lift that facility’s annual capacity from about 200,000 TEUs to 1.75 million TEUs. Georgia Ports plans nearly $5 billion in investment over the next decade.

“Thanks to our Georgia Ports employees, Gateway Terminals and the ILA, we are providing world-class service,” said GPA CEO Griff Lynch. GPA President Kevin Price added, “The capital investments we’ve made are now paying off in service levels for our customers.”
