Maersk has completed the first commercial ship-to-ship ethanol bunkering in the United States, delivering a 100 percent bioethanol blend from producer POET to the dual-fuel vessel Tangier Maersk. The operation, conducted in cooperation with Kirby Corporation, Port of Houston, and the U.S. Coast Guard, tests ethanol’s interoperability with methanol-capable engines. It builds on earlier trials aboard Laura Maersk and Antonia Maersk and supports Maersk’s broader effort to evaluate alternative marine fuels as part of the shipping industry’s energy transition.
