The Capesize bulk carrier Cape Falcon (182,066 dwt) remains aground off Gladstone, Australia, four days after grounding on Sept. 18 while maneuvering toward a bunkering anchorage. Tug attempts to free the Japanese-owned, Liberian-flagged vessel on Saturday and Sunday were unsuccessful. No injuries or pollution have been reported. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has preserved the ship’s voyage data recorder and will launch a full investigation once the vessel is freed; the Australian Maritime Safety Authority says it will be detained and inspected before departure.
