The Panama Canal Authority has implemented immediate adjustments to its Neopanamax booking system, allowing operators to secure multiple or consecutive-day reservation slots, following customer feedback and skyrocketing auction prices. A record $5.3 million bid was recently placed by SK Gas for a September 1 transit. Sixty-three weekly Neopanamax slots will be distributed across vessel segments as daily transits drop to nine starting September 3. The changes come amid ongoing El Niño-driven drought conditions and forecasts of declining Gatun Lake water levels.
