HD Hyundai Samho has delivered its first Very Large Ammonia Carrier (VLAC), the 93,000-cubic-meter Jane Maersk, to Danish shipping giant Maersk. The vessel, first of five VLACs ordered in November 2023, is designed to carry both liquefied ammonia and LPG, featuring specialized safety systems including a high-level alarm to reduce overfilling risk during loading. HD Hyundai Samho has secured nine VLAC orders this year alone, bringing its orderbook to 22 vessels worth roughly $2.55 billion, reflecting growing confidence in expanding global ammonia trade.
