HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding has expanded its distributed shipbuilding strategy to the U.S. Navy’s amphibious transport dock program, starting with Philadelphia (LPD 32), building on prior success in the Flight III destroyer program. Eight structural units for Philadelphia have been awarded to two partners and are already in early production. Ingalls president Brian Blanchette said the move frees the shipyard’s team to focus on complex assembly and integration while partners handle selected structural units. HII plans to grow outsourced shipbuilding hours by 30 percent in 2026, with amphibious ships representing a significant share.
