The Panama Canal Authority is temporarily suspending, effective July 25, the auction process for Period 3 close-in transit slots for Regular and Super vessel segments, citing current hydrological conditions ahead of an anticipated El Niño-driven dry pattern. Neopanamax Period 3 auctions are unaffected, and Extraordinary Auctions will continue for last-minute cancellations. The change impacts just two of 36 daily transit slots, roughly six percent of capacity, but is expected to increase competition for earlier-booked Period 1 and Period 2 slots, particularly for vessels with limited scheduling flexibility.
