Two crew members of the fishing vessel Hustler were rescued after their 48-foot boat sank about four miles west of Ocean Shores, Washington, around noon on Thursday, July 9, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. The pair managed to pull on immersion suits and deploy a life raft before the vessel went down, and were pulled from the water by a Coast Guard motor lifeboat crew from Station Cape Disappointment.

A helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Astoria and a U.S. Navy P-8 Poseidon provided air cover during the rescue. Both crew members — Casper Boyer Jr. and Casper Boyer Sr. — were reported home safe and doing well, a family member said.

The sinking came just a week after another fishing vessel, the Triton, went down off Long Beach, Washington. Local advocates with the FishHer Columbia Pacific Community Alliance said the back-to-back losses underscore the value of marine-safety training and the toll such incidents take on the region’s fishing community.
