The Port of Los Angeles processed 890,861 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in April 2026, a 5.7% increase compared to the same month last year and the port’s second-best April on record. Loaded imports rose 5% year-over-year to 459,825 TEUs — 21% higher than March — while loaded exports edged down 0.5% and empty container movements climbed 10%.
Executive Director Gene Seroka called April the port’s strongest month of 2026 and the highest cargo volume recorded since last August, citing resilient American consumer demand. Through the first four months of the year, the port has handled approximately 3.3 million TEUs, running 2% above its five-year average despite a 2% dip from the prior year’s front-loaded pace.
Seroka noted that cargo continues to move efficiently with no backups or delays, crediting longshore workers, terminal operators, trucking companies, and rail partners. Former U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai joined Seroka at the briefing to discuss the broader global supply chain outlook.
