The New York City Economic Development Corp. has issued a request for expressions of interest from maritime operators and technology providers on a proposed zero-emission container-on-barge service between the Brooklyn Marine Terminal and the future Hunts Point Marine Terminal. The all-electric or zero-emission barge and tug operation would carry at least 100 refrigerated 40-foot containers per sailing, supporting food-supply resiliency and reducing truck traffic. Hunts Point is expected to open in Q2 2030. Expressions of interest are due October 15.
