Karachi Port has completed dredging works deepening its navigation channel to 14 metres and East Wharf berths to 15.5 metres, enabling operator Noatum Ports Karachi Terminals to handle larger vessels. The upgrade allows the terminal to accommodate containerships up to 350 metres in length and bulk carriers up to 120,000 metric tonnes. The deeper channel and berths are expected to improve cargo flows and reduce operational constraints for shipping lines calling at Pakistan’s main maritime gateway.
