Maritime Executive Article: Baltimore Fireboats Respond to Sinking Towboat

A towboat identified as the Gale began taking on water after reportedly striking an object in Curtis Creek near Baltimore, prompting a rapid emergency response. The vessel, which was pushing a fuel barge at the time, issued a mayday call early in the incident.

First responders, including Baltimore Fire Department marine units, quickly arrived on scene and safely rescued all crewmembers. No injuries were reported. The 65-foot towboat remained partially afloat and secured to the barge while additional support vessels stood by to assist.

Authorities have not yet determined the full cause of the incident, and recovery operations are ongoing as crews work to stabilize the vessel and assess the situation.
