MarineLink Article: Marine Group Boat Works to Build Multi-Deck Live Fire Training Simulator for San Diego Harbor Police Department
Marine Group Boat Works has been awarded a contract by the San Diego Unified Port District to design, fabricate, and install a multi-deck live fire training simulator for the San Diego Harbor Police Department. The simulator will be built aboard an existing LCM-8 landing craft, transforming it into a dedicated shipboard firefighting training platform for local and regional responders.
Designed to replicate real-world maritime fire scenarios, the simulator will feature two propane-fueled burn chambers capable of generating controlled Class “B” fires. Its interior layout—including hatches, ladders, and stairwells—will mirror active vessel environments, allowing trainees to practice navigation and emergency response under realistic, high-stress conditions.
The project also includes ongoing maintenance and instructor training, ensuring long-term reliability. Officials say the new asset will significantly enhance local live-fire training capabilities and improve emergency preparedness across San Diego Bay’s maritime community.
