Merchants Exchange is hiring for a full-time, night shift position as a Marine Operations Specialist. This position works in our 24-hour Marine Operations Services Department, taking customer service calls, tracking ship movements, and informing our members of crucial developments.
This position collects, interprets, records and disseminates ship information, provides specialized industry answering service functions, monitors and responds to VHF radio calls, and responds to emergency actions as contracted. Don’t have a background in maritime? Don’t worry! No previous maritime or shipping industry experience is required.
The Marine Operations Specialist requires a high attention to detail and accuracy to be successful. Additionally, because this is a night shift position, you need to be comfortable working autonomously. Shifts are 12 hours and require the ability to work Sunday – Tuesday, 10:00pm to 10:00am and every other Wednesday, including some holidays.
This position is hourly, non-exempt, with a pay range starting at $21.00 per hour. There are 8 hours of overtime every pay period (biweekly) plus additional 12 hours of pay for each of 11 holidays, whether you work it or not! The Merchants Exchange is located in a secure building in downtown Portland near PSU. Our building has 24/7 security on-site as well as an attached underground parking garage with secure building access.
