The Maritime Commerce Club, Columbia River (MCC) was created to further the interests of individuals and businesses involved in maritime trade along the Columbia and Willamette River Systems. The club provides opportunities for social networking, keeps members informed of the events shaping the maritime industry, and participates in philanthropic endeavors that strengthen our community.
Created from the merger of the Portland Shipping Club and the Propeller Club - Port of the Columbia River, the Maritime Commerce Club brings together individuals possessing a wealth of industry knowledge with professionals who have the vision to keep the maritime industry moving into the future. The club will continue to sponsor events that honor those who have been invaluable to the maritime community; bring awareness to issues shaping our industry; celebrate the impact our industry has had in developing our region; and give back to the community we live in.
In order to facilitate the needs of our members, the Maritime Commerce Club sponsors multiple educational, networking, and philanthropic events throughout the year.
Educational Luncheon Programs: To keep our membership well-informed of the events affecting the maritime industry on the Columbia and Willamette Rivers, the MCC sponsors educational luncheons that touch on annual topics such as “The State of the Ports”, “The Annual Grain Update”, or the “State of the Rivers”. These luncheons feature esteemed guest speakers with a respected perspective on the topic matter.
Networking Events: The Maritime Commerce Club recognizes the need for the members of the maritime industry to meet socially and network – but to also have fun while doing it. MCC sponsors informal events where our members can gather and make contacts while bowling, eating pizza, or participating in other activities such as our annual golf tournament.
Events of Recognition: The MCC honors not only those who have demonstrated outstanding service to the maritime industry, but also celebrates how our industry has impacted and shaped the Pacific Northwest region. Each year, we present the “Old Salt Award” at our Winter Event to an individual who, through longevity and service, has advanced the Columbia River Maritime Industry.
Philanthropic Events: MCC's largest philanthropic endeavor each year is the annual Children's Christmas Shopping Spree. The “Spree” provides children who are living in various shelters in the Portland Metro area the opportunity to shop for Christmas gifts for members of their family. In 2014, four area shelters participated and 40 families benefited from this event. Through the continued support of our members, volunteers, and corporate sponsors, the Maritime Commerce Club hopes to extend invitations to additional shelters to participate in future events. As the event draws near, please look for information on how you can volunteer or otherwise participate in the MCC Children’s Christmas Shopping Spree.
