U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker Healy suffered a significant engineering casualty during post-refit sea trials off the Washington coast and was towed back to Seattle on July 13 by the tug Marshall Foss. No injuries were reported. A source indicated a crankcase explosion occurred in one engine during trials, taking the affected engine room offline. Healy, powered by four diesel generators split between two engine rooms, will undergo investigation and repairs, with no timeline yet given for returning to service.
