Salvage and recovery operations are progressing at the Port of Long Beach after the cargo ship Mississippi lost approximately 75 containers on September 9. As of September 14, 32 containers have been recovered from harbor waters, and all unaffected cargo has been secured. A 500-yard safety zone remains in effect as salvage crews, port laborers, and federal, state, and local agencies work together to restore full operations at Pier G. No further pollution has been observed since an initial leak was contained, and port operations have continued with minimal disruption. The U.S. Coast Guard and National Transportation Safety Board are leading the ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident.
