Canadian shipbuilder Davie has announced plans to acquire shipbuilding assets in Galveston and Port Arthur, Texas, from Gulf Copper & Manufacturing Corporation—a move set to significantly expand Davie’s presence in the U.S. shipbuilding sector. The acquisition, expected to close in summer 2025, will support America’s urgent need for new icebreakers and aligns with the ICE Pact agreement between the U.S., Canada, and Finland to boost polar shipbuilding. Davie’s $1 billion investment will upgrade Texas facilities, create around 4,000 jobs, and provide production-ready icebreaker designs to accelerate U.S. Coast Guard programs.
