The U.S. Coast Guard and Rozema Boat Works marked the keel authentication of the first special purpose craft – heavy weather (SPC-HWX II) during a July 8 ceremony in Mount Vernon, Washington. The milestone begins construction on a new class of vessel designed for extreme weather and surf conditions in the Pacific Northwest, with one homeport slated for Station Grays Harbor in Westport. The Coast Guard plans to acquire up to six SPC-HWX II boats to replace the retired 52-foot heavy weather fleet. Delivery of the first vessel is scheduled for 2027.
