SeaARCTOS has received Type Approval from Lloyd’s Register for carbon dioxide emissions monitoring and reporting using its ARCTOS-1 system. The MARPOL-approved, stack-mounted device continuously measures carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide and methane exhaust emissions and has completed more than 20,000 hours of at-sea testing.

The unit weighs less than 3.5 kilograms, is no larger than a shoebox and is powered by waste heat from the exhaust. Installation takes under an hour and requires no welding or cutting. A tamper alarm alerts both the port authority and SeaARCTOS, while data is encrypted and transmitted by satellite using a location-locked system designed to resist AIS spoofing.

“FuelEU Maritime, the EU Emissions Trading System, and the IMO Net-Zero Framework, if it is adopted, are only as effective as their enforcement mechanisms,” said SeaARCTOS CEO Fredrik Fuglesang. “Tamper-proof emissions monitoring gives regulators, port authorities and flag states the vital evidence they need.”
