OSHA and the U.S. Coast Guard have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen coordination on maritime worker safety in Northwest Oregon. Coast Guard Sector Columbia River will designate a point of contact, host onsite engagements, and join joint inspections where permitted, while OSHA’s Portland office will provide hazard-specific training and technical assistance without conducting enforcement during those visits. The agreement also establishes joint cross-training on investigative practices, marine casualty work, and vessel inspections, while preserving each agency’s existing legal authority.
