U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and Royal Canadian Navy vessels arrived in Portland on Tuesday, June 2, for the Rose Festival’s annual Fleet Week, sailing up the Columbia River and turning south into the Willamette to berth along Tom McCall Waterfront Park downtown. To clear the way for the ships, the Broadway, Steel, and Burnside bridges required lifts tentatively scheduled between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Because the Steel Bridge carries all five MAX lines, the Broadway Bridge carries the Portland Streetcar, and both the Steel and Burnside bridges carry multiple bus routes and vehicle traffic, TriMet advised riders and commuters to expect significant delays during lift windows. The vessels will be open for free public tours June 4-7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The ships are scheduled to depart Monday, June 8, sailing back down the Willamette toward the Columbia River, with bridge lifts and related traffic disruptions again expected through midday.
