gCaptain Article: Immersion Suit Rises to Challenge For Faster Protection

VIKING Life-Saving Equipment has launched the YouSafe™ Crest (PS2016) immersion suit, designed to meet U.S. Coast Guard requirements while prioritizing rapid donning in emergency situations. Built from durable, naturally buoyant neoprene, the suit provides up to six hours of thermal protection in cold water and is available in updated sizing to accommodate a wide range of body types. Key safety features include reinforced soles, high-visibility elements, and an integrated inflatable head support that helps maintain airway position without the need for a separate lifejacket.

A major focus of the new design is reducing the time required to put on the suit when seconds matter. The suit incorporates a U.S. Coast Guard-approved Aquaseal plastic zipper for faster, more reliable closure, along with detachable gloves that allow users to don and adjust the suit more easily. Additional design elements improve mobility and enable users to perform critical tasks, such as handling lines or signaling for help, without delay.

The YouSafe™ Crest is offered as a standardized, scalable solution for fleets operating under U.S. jurisdiction or calling at U.S. ports. Supported by VIKING’s global service network, the suit includes ongoing maintenance and compliance support, with a launch discount available through October 2026.
