Maritime Executive Article: Cargo Ship Thamesborg Refloated After 33 Days in Remote Canadian Arctic
Royal Wagenborg has announced the successful refloating of its cargo vessel Thamesborg, which was stranded for 33 days after grounding in the Franklin Strait off Prince of Wales Island, Canada. The complex operation, assisted by T&T Salvage and the icebreaker Botnica, involved offloading 5,000 tons of carbon block cargo and carefully managing ballast tanks damaged during the incident. The Canadian Coast Guard oversaw the operation, which concluded with no further damage or pollution. With its ice-class hull and an ice advisor on board, Thamesborg is now proceeding to Baie Comeau, Canada, as winter approaches in the Arctic. Wagenborg extended gratitude to all agencies and teams involved in the challenging recovery.
