Professional Mariner Article: Tugboat Leaks Fuel After Sinking at Bremerton Marina
A unified command of the U.S. Coast Guard and Washington Department of Ecology is responding to the sinking of the 130-foot tugboat Dominion at Bremerton Marina, which released an unknown amount of diesel fuel and approximately 200 gallons of lube oil into the water. Containment booms, absorbent pads, vacuum trucks, and skimmers have been deployed, and a safety zone is in place from the Manette Bridge to the Bremerton Ferry Terminal. As of Friday, about 900 gallons of product had been recovered, with shoreline teams monitoring for oiled wildlife. The Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund is supporting cleanup operations, and a salvage plan is underway. The public is urged to avoid the area as the cause of the sinking is investigated.
