Fincantieri SpA is set to appoint George Moutafis as CEO of its U.S. unit, Fincantieri Marine Group, signaling a major push to expand American shipbuilding operations amid renewed political focus on the maritime sector. Moutafis, returning after a stint at Beretta US, will oversee hiring of hundreds at the company’s Marinette Marine shipyard in Wisconsin, where Fincantieri manufactures naval vessels including frigates, littoral combat ships, and tug boats. The company also plans to resume icebreaker construction, aligning with the Trump administration’s call for a greater U.S. Arctic presence. Fincantieri has invested $800 million in its U.S. operations since 2009 and is among several foreign shipbuilders expanding in response to American initiatives to boost domestic shipbuilding and maritime security.
